Why English is different to revise

Maths rewards repetition of method. English rewards knowing the text closely and being able to structure an answer under time pressure. The system is the same; what it drills is not.
Writing has a fixed shape
Letters, notices and analytical paragraphs are scored on format as much as content. Knowing the expected shape before you start writing is most of the mark.
